Case Study: Boss Hog HT Plug Development and Deployment

An Enhanced Geothermal operator tasked WellBoss with creating a solution for their 7″ 35# cased well design. We adapted an existing plug design, employing our proprietary High Temperature/High Pressure (HPHT) material to deliver a frac plug rated at 10,000 psi and 350°F.

This plug underwent rigorous testing:

  • 6 Tests: Holds at 6,000 psi, 8,000 psi, and 10,000 psi for up to 6 hours.
  • Temperature Resistance: Withstands temperatures of 300, 325, and 350°F.
  • Pressure Cycles: Three tests cycling from 10,000 to 6,000 psi, and holding 12,500 psi after cycles.
  • Extended Holds: Three 2-hour pressure holds at 6,000 psi, 8,000 psi, and 10,000 psi.

In initial trials, WellBoss plugs achieved 100% success, outperforming three competitors. The 7″ Boss Hog HT, with less metal and material, resulted in up to 40% less mill time. Recognizing their superior performance, the operator placed additional orders for more Boss Hog plugs.
